Toledo Bend Reservoir is the largest man-made body of water in the South and fifth largest in surface acres in the United States, with water normally covering an area of 185,000 acres.

The lake extends up the Sabine River 65 miles and is surrounded by typical mixed pine, hardwood forests.

Game Fish & Online Licenses

Note: Residents of Texas or Louisiana who are properly licensed in their state (or are exempt because of age), or persons who hold valid non-resident fishing licenses issued by either state may fish in any portion of the lakes and rivers forming a common boundary between Louisiana and Texas inland from a line across Sabine Pass between Texas Point and Louisiana Point.

On the Texas side of the reservoir, most fishes are regulated under existing statewide regulations. However, a few special regulations apply:

• Largemouth Bass
• Black & White Crappie. Minimum length limit=10 inches and daily bag and possession limit=50 in any combination; caught from December 1 through the last day of February, there is no minimum length limit and all crappie caught must be retained. Daily bag and possession limit is still 50.
• Catfish
• Striped Bass. No minimum length limit. Daily bag=5, and only two striped bass 30 inches or greater may be retained each day.
• White Bass. No minimum length limit and daily bag=25.
• Black Bass. Daily bag for all four species of black bass=8 bass in any combination. Possession limit=10.

On the Sabine River in Shelby, Sabine and Newton counties, straddling the Texas-Louisiana state line. The dam is in Newton County approximately 24 miles northeast of Jasper.
