Lake Ray Hubbard, Texas Facts & Features
Lake Ray Hubbard, formerly Forney Reservoir, is a freshwater lake located in Dallas, Kaufman, Collin, and Rockwall Counties built on the East Fork Trinity River and impounded by the Rockwall-Forney Dam.
Lake Ray Hubbard measures 22,745 acres and has a maximum depth of 40 feet. The lake was named after a living person, Ray Hubbard, who presided over the Dallas Parks and Recreation System board from 1943 to 1972.
Originally designed to provide water to Dallas, the project was started in 1964 with the lake being impounded in 1968 and a 2-mile earthfill dam completed in 1969.
There is no camping around Lake Ray Hubbard, but Robertson Park is a large day-use area with excellent bank fishing access and two boat ramps. Ramps and other services are available at other city parks and private marinas around the lake.
