Lake Fork Creek rises in the southeastern corner of Hunt County and flows in an easterly direction for 78 miles to its confluence with the Sabine River eight miles southeast of Mineola.
Bass fishing on Lake Fork is a wildly popular activity and is excellent year-round. Lake Fork has placed 34 out of the Top 50 Largemouth Bass caught in the entire state of Texas including the current state record (sorry Lake Amistad and Lake Falcon).
This excellent fishing lake is due to a combination of restrictive harvest regulations, stocking of Florida strain largemouth bass, and good habitat that have all contributed to Lake Fork's development as one of the country's premier trophy bass lakes.
Crappie fishing is generally good, especially in standing timber and under the lake's numerous bridges. In fact, some of the biggest bass caught at Lake Fork have been caught by people fishing for crappie!
Channel catfish provide an excellent sport fishery, though this remains a well-kept secret. Sunfish, primarily bluegill, offer additional angling opportunities during spring and summer.
Note: Caution Advised When Boating! Flooded timber is found throughout Lake Fork and provides excellent fish habitat. Although access through the reservoir is provided by numerous buoyed boat lanes, submerged timber represents a substantial hazard, so care should be exercised while boating in all areas, even in open water. Many tree tops and stumps lie just below the surface and can easily take your prop of of service if you are not paying attention.
