Lake Fork is on the Sabine River was impounded in 1980 and has 27,264 acres of water with a maxium depth of 70 feet.
Largemouth bass fishing on Lake Fork is a wildly popular activity and is excellent year-round. Lake Fork has placed 34 out of the Top 50 Largemouth Bass caught in the entire state of Texas including the current state record of 18.18 lbs. (sorry Lake Amistad and Lake Falcon) making Lake Fork one of the country's premier trophy bass lakes.
Lake Fork is also an excellent crappie and channel catfish fishery. In fact, when Barry St. Clair caught the state record largemouth bass, he was fishing for crappie with jigs when his lunker slammed the line.
This excellent fishing lake is due to a combination of restrictive harvest regulations, stocking of Florida strain largemouth bass, and good habitat that have all contributed to Lake Fork's development as one of the country's premier trophy bass lakes.
Note: Boating Caution Advised! Flooded timber is found throughout Lake Fork and provides excellent fish habitat. Although access through the reservoir is provided by numerous buoyed boat lanes, submerged timber represents a substantial hazard, so care should be exercised while boating in all areas, even in open water. Many tree tops and stumps lie just below the surface and can easily take your prop of of service if you are not paying attention.
