Lake New Don Pedro, California
Facts & Features
The present shoreline of New Don Pedro Lake was created in 1971 when the New Don Pedro Dam was completed. Prior to then, a concrete dam built in 1923 backed the Tuolumne river some 1.5 miles upstream from the new dam's location, creating a much smaller lake than the present one. The old dam is still in place, but 250 feet below water.
Nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills due east of Modesto, CA, New Don Pedro Lake may well be the answer for those recreational enthusiasts who are tired of dealing with the crowds often found at lakes closer to large metropolitan areas.
Lake New Don Perdo offers 160 miles of shoreline with nearly 13,000 surface acres of water (at maximum lake level).
Because of its large size, New Don Pedro Lake creates opportunities for exploring hidden coves, boating, fishing, sailing, windserving, water-skiing, and camping.
